My practice

I have been practicing yoga for over 25 years and it has become an integral part of my life. With my practice, I feel grounded and resilient to face life with all of its ups and downs. I don’t control what life throws at me but my practice gives me the tools to get through anything.

My practice and teachings are rooted in the traditional Ashtanga method. I am deeply grateful for the many building blocks that have shaped my journey over the years — which started with led classes, the DVDs and YouTube videos that kept me going during my early years of parenthood, committing to a self-practice, and eventually evolving from a practitioner into a dedicated student of yoga.

A few years ago I went to Kingsburg Nova Scotia for a workshop with Jody Manley because I was curious in what she was sharing.  I was hooked.  Her method and approach really resonated with me.  The method is based on her learnings as a long time student of Nancy Gilgoff, David Williams, and Manju Jois. I feel so fortunate to be tapped into this lineage, rich with knowledge and experience.  And my growth continues to evolve through the guidance of my teacher and mentor, Jody, who supports and inspires me.

Through the years, I have personally experienced and learned from different health & physical challenges that have presented themselves.  Whether it’s figuring out my mobility limitations in my knees and hips, managing multiple BPPV vertigo episodes or navigating the tribulations of peri-menopause — not to mention, most recently, dealing with a broken foot (all not yoga-related issues, by the way).

Throughs these hurdles, I have adapted my practice and used it therapeutically to help heal.  This is the power of the method.  Focusing on how to practice.

And there are so many elements to the practice to draw from… asana, meditation, breathing, mantras, chanting, kindness, and so much more.

My philosophy is simple:
if you can breathe, you can do yoga.
