Lessons from Old Method Ashtanga
“I can honestly say I haven’t found anything that matches the efficacy of the old method ashtanga whether looking through a physical, mental or, spiritual lens and I can’t wait to share it with you”. Jody
When David Williams and Nancy Gilgoff traveled to study with K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore in the early 1970s, they learned the practice of Ashtanga yoga in an effective manner that differs from how modern ashtanga is interpreted today. As a long-time student of this lineage, Jody continues to preserve and share the original methodology as it was taught to her by her teachers.
Join this workshop with Senior Ashtanga Teacher, Jody Manley, as we explore this original methodology, its unique emphasis on the internal aspects and energetic progression of the practice.
This will be a beautiful opportunity to deepen your practice, receive individual guidance, and explore the Ashtanga method from a different lens.

Asana Workshop: Pathways to Progress
How do you breathe when you enter and exit an asana?
In the old method of Ashtanga, there is a specific pattern of movement and breath that guides the entire practice. When we place our emphasis here, we move away from asana mastery and toward energetic progression and the therapeutic effects of the practice.
In this session, we will explore these breath and movement patterns in depth, developing an understanding of what lies at the core of the old method.
This just might become your most valuable tool for growth within the practice.

Jody has been practising Ashtanga Yoga uninterrupted since 1995. She is a close student of Nancy Gilgoff and David Williams, the first western practitioners to study directly with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India. After decades of dedicated study with her teachers, Jody continues to practise, study, and explore the Ashtanga system within this traditional framework, committed to preserving the integrity and efficacy of the method as it was passed down to her.
Additionally, she has shared a close relationship with Manju Jois, hosting him in Canada for nearly a decade and assisting in numerous workshops. His teachings have had a profound influence on both her life and the way she transmits the practice. Jody is the first Canadian authorized by Manju to teach the full Ashtanga Yoga system and pranayama.
She currently teaches from her home studio in Kingsburg, Nova Scotia, where her primary focus is guiding practitioners and teachers in the traditional method with the intention of keeping the original methodology alive.
